USA - Student Newspaper Apologizes for Cartoon Deemed Insulting
The University of Arizona's student newspaper has issued an apology after publishing a staff member's cartoon widely perceived as anti-Semitic.
The apology written by editor in chief Allison Hornick says "the comic did not intend to maliciously attack or disrespect the Jewish community."
The cartoon was drawn by Joseph Topmiller and carried on the Daily Wildcat's comics page.
It depicted a credit card receipt for a restaurant showing a 7 percent tip with the signature ``Mark Goldfarb.''
Beneath, it read: "Attention all crappy tipping Jews!!! Just because you're 'screwing' the server ... does not mean that it's a mitzvah."
A mitzvah is a good deed.
Hornick says that editors had discussed the comic in advance and didn't think it was intended to be malicious.
