USA – Breaking off contact with Helen Thomas

Deserting the correspondent who said that the Jews should “get the hell out of Palestine”, and then when asked where they should go to, replied: “home, to Poland or to Germany”.

Political commentator Craig Crawford, who co-wrote the book “Listen Mister President” with Helen Thomas, announced that he wishes to interrupt their co-writing of an additional book, because of Thomas’ remarks about Israelis. Crawford said that “Due to her unfortunate statement about Israel, I can no longer work with Helen on our literary projects”.

Diane Nine, the agent of journalist Thomas, announced that she will no longer represent her.

“Miss Thomas had an admirable career as a journalist. She paved the way for women and assisted her colleagues. But in light of the latest incident, we can no longer represent Miss Thomas and forgive her for what she said about the Middle East".

Lanny Davis, former special advisor to President Bill Clinton and White House spokesman, issued a special press release in which he clarified that “Helen Thomas, whom I respected and regarded as a close friend, revealed her true face as a zealous antisemite. It is not about disagreeing with her criticism of Israel. She is allowed to criticize Israel. But her statement about the Jews in Israel, that they should return to Poland or Germany is an ancient and well-known antisemitic notion, suggesting that the Jews do not belong to the Land of Israel”.

He stressed that “If she called all the Blacks to go back to Africa, would the White House Correspondent Association allow her to continue sitting in the White House press room, all the more so in a reserved seat?” He added that “Under the first amendment to the constitution, Helen is of course entitled as a private citizen to be a fanatic antisemite, but she is not allowed to be so as a respected member with a reserved seat in the White House press room”.
